The clients desired a contemporary design but also understood the fabric of the neighborhood would only allow so much. The design developed from a traditional massing and then contemporary lines and edges were added to it. Just as the river behind the house has oyster shells growing from it, the house sits on a rusticated oyster shell tabby base and a white stucco facade above. Ludowici clay shake roof tiles and steel windows and doors round out the exterior materials. The restraint on the outside was not continued on the inside. A much more contemporary aesthetic is found inside the house. The clients extensive art collection is put on stage throughout. The project’s success is a perfect example of the design team, construction team, and the clients all working hard to create a unique and special solution.
